Intruder Alarms
Intruder alarms are the original and the best home security solution. They’re recommended by the police and neighbourhood watch groups and often a requirement of insurers. Consumers are confronted by a huge array of home security options so it can be difficult to know which one is right for you. Some are oversimplified to the point where they’re almost ineffective. Other more complicated systems come with jargon which some might use to bamboozle you with. This means that you could end up with a level of cover which doesn’t meet the requirements of your insurers. At Keybury we pride ourselves on our industry knowledge and understanding, gained through almost four decades of designing, installing and maintaining intruder alarms to the highest industry standards. You can read more about our gold standard systems here. Our customer feedback often mentions how clearly we explain things for our customers.
Intruder Alarms: The Trends
We’ve been providing burglar alarms to local businesses and homeowners for almost forty years and we’ve seen many trends come and go. The latest is the purely Wi-Fi, plug-and-play security systems being championed on day time TV. Over the years, the acid test of whether an innovation in security lasts – or not – is determined by the burglars. We’re always at the forefront of new technology to provide our customers with the best systems available. If a new trend in security doesn’t meet stringent industry standards or live up to our rigorous research and testing, then we won’t be putting your security at risk with it.
Plug and Play?
Plug and play is brilliant for so many things. It’s so simple! This does mean it’s simple for an intruder to unplug so an intruder can play too. A system that you can unpack, plugin, set up on an app and then ask Alexa or Google to turn on seems wonderful – our guess is that the burglar thinks it’s wonderful too! If a sounder isn’t screwed down, then smashing it or dropping it in the sink is easy … maybe even stealing it could be an option! If there is no external siren and flashing light, high on the outside wall then where is the deterrent? How will others around you be alerted to your plight?
Many studies tell us that intruders are put off by a recognisable burglar alarm and CCTV cameras. Burglars will take note of the security systems in place and look for the easier option. If they only realise you have an alarm once they’ve broken into your premises then the damage is already done.
It is a great idea to have a compatible app with your security system. We offer this for our customers who wish to remotely set and unset their alarms and receive alerts, including for loss of power to the system. The functionality is fantastic. However, if the system is ONLY an app then it really is missing some essential elements. The intruder alarm must perform as a robust security system in it’s own right. Use of the app is additional to the system itself. The ability to remotely set and unset your system, check on it’s status and receive alerts is great. Apps are a great addition to an alarm system but the system itself must first provide a deterrent and second alert burglars and neighbours.
Intruder Alarms
We stated earlier that whether new security innovations last is determined by burglars – this is true, however there are another group of people who influence this. Let’s just say this: before you order your plug-and-play voice activated alarm, ask your insurer what they think.
