Protecting your home from crime can be done in a number of ways. There are some excellent systems including doorbell cameras, home CCTV and intruder alarm systems. These are readily available from a range of installers… but they’re not all the same.

It’s important to check the credentials of anyone you’re enlisting to install a security system in your property, and luckily there are some easy ways to do this.

A reputable security company will be approved by the National Security Inspectorate (NSI). The NSI gives different levels of approval to different security companies. NSI GOLD is the highest standard awarded only to those working to meet very stringent requirements. Many company’s hold NSI Gold approval for one service, and it’s important to verify that they are meeting the standards for the service you require. For example a company that holds approval for monitoring station wouldn’t necessarily hold approval for installing alarm systems. You can check the NSI website to cross reference a company’s credentials. They should also have the information readily available on their own websites. The NSI hold regular and rigorous inspections of security businesses, providing customers with confidence in their products and services. Here’s an in depth look at what being and NSI GOLD approved company means.

If a company isn’t NSI GOLD approved, they may instead hold SSAIB approval, which is another industry recognised standard. Or they may meet police Secured By Design standards.

In an industry a crucial as security, it’s important to enlist a trustworthy business.
