#TourDeWalkshire – Team Keybury are taking on Welcome To Yorkshire’s challenge and helping to fund life saving cancer research.

When Welcome to Yorkshire’s James Mason came to visit our Keighley Head quarters last month, he challenged our team to take part in #TourDeWalkshire and raise funds for Yorkshire Cancer Research. Of course we took up the challenge and signed up.

When the Tour De Yorkshire was postponed until 2022, Welcome To Yorkshire partnered with Yorkshire Cancer Research to create a charity event across the county. 600 people in Yorkshire are diagnosed with cancer every week. Together they hope to raise £50,000 to fund vital research and help prevent, diagnose & treat cancer. People are taking part from across the globe, and the campaign has gained support from Yorkshire born celebrities including Sir Patrick Stewart.

#TourDeWalkshire: Keybury’s story

Each year Team Keybury rallies together to take part in a charity challenge. This has involved rowing across Lake Windermere, Climbing the Yorkshire 3 Peaks and cycling the length of the Leeds-Liverpool Canal. Our events have raised thousands of pounds for charities including British Heart Foundation and Sue Ryder. Our fantastic team do rise to a challenge! Last year, we had to rethink things a bit. Rather than getting the team together we had to find a way to raise money remotely. Our team took part in silly events, culminating in the Biscuit Dunking World Cup. It was lots of fun, we got to eat lots of biscuits and we raised money for Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice Oxenhope.

Team Keybury have signed up to walk, run and cycle our way through May. We’re aiming to raise £1,000 between us and cover 450 miles – the equivalent distance of the Yorkshire border. Team members include our MD, Frank, who has already run an impressive 41 miles in the first 6 days of May. We’re walking in our lunch breaks to top up the miles we cover on the weekends.
