Do You Worry About Your Home Security?

It goes without saying that people worry about home security and crime. In case you needed statistics to confirm it, ONS has published data which says that 3 in 5 people think crime is one of the most important issues facing the UK today. In fact people worry about crime more than climate change. Back in the halcyon days of 2022 less than half the people surveyed thought crime was an issue.

Should You Worry About Home Security?

So why are people more worried about crime? Could it be all in our heads? Are we watching too many Netflix series and imagining the worst? Sadly not. The latest Crime survey for England and Wales – which asks people if they have been a victim of crime in the last 12 months – confirmed that headline crime is on the increase. Unfortunately this “headline crime” includes robbery, criminal damage, violence and fraud.

The latest Crime Survey for England and Wales (CSEW) estimated 9.5 million incidents of headline crime (which includes theft, robbery, criminal damage, fraud, computer misuse, and violence with or without injury) in the survey year ending (YE) September 2024. This was 12% higher than last year’s survey (8.5 million incidents in YE September 2023)

Data Points to the Benefit of Home Security Systems

Further research shows that people are turning to home security systems to help to ease these worries. Data about what drives people to install home security measures found that it was mainly action to reduce these apprehensions. Two thirds of people improve their home security because of feeling vulnerable or worrying about crime. Many people are jumping into action after hearing from a neighbour, friend or relative that they have been a victim of crime. Home security systems can provide peace of mind for those struggling to sleep because of who might be prowling about.

How can Home Security Systems Benefit You?

A home security system offers a number of significant benefits to anyone worried about levels of crime in their local area. Firstly, a visible home security system is an excellent deterrent. Intruders looking for an easy target will avoid anywhere they might be caught on camera or where they may trigger an intruder alarm.

It can be very reassuring to know that if anyone were to attempt to break in, help will be at hand. Monitored alarms can alert keyholders or even be used to summon the police via an alarm receiving centre. Even your alarm bell box sounding is enough to scare away a burglar and bring the neighbours out. On top of this, many of our customers are opting for monitored panic alarm buttons, which can be used to trigger the system and call for help. These are an excellent option for anyone feeling vulnerable.

With better sleep and fewer worries, having a professional home security system installed really is an act of self care.

Spoiler Alert: take action!

Experts agree that taking action helps to ease worries. Make a plan to tackle your concerns, and carry it out. If you are worried about your home security, decide what would help to make you feel safer at home. Then take action to put these measures in place.
