This blog was prompted by Mr B’s review, which he wrote when we replace his “ancient” intruder alarm. Some systems that we replace these days really are ancient. So how long does an intruder alarm actually last?

How long does an intruder alarm last?

When your customers’ children and grandchildren are now buying your security systems for their own homes, you know you’ve been in business a long time. Some of those original customers have had Keybury home security systems in their homes since before some of our team members were even born. Those intruder alarms have really lasted!

A good maintenance programme is important to keep any system working as it should. We offer this as standard, and it helps to ensure our customers’ systems keep working and keep protecting them for a long time.

When will I need to update my system?

Lots of people are content to carry on with their ancient alarms, saying “it still works!”. But it happens very often that people decide they’ve had enough of their weary old systems. It’s finally time to drag their home security into the twenty first century. They want to take advantage of new technology and get the app. Or they’re renovating and decide it’s a good time to go wireless. Unfortunately sometimes an ‘ancient’ system will go faulty, and at this stage there’s nothing to do but replace it with new.

Unsurprisingly, it’s not so easy to come by parts for the security systems of the eighties. Repairs of decades old systems are increasingly difficult as the technology flies ahead. But older systems can be upgraded and replaced with new. Where we can, we’ll reuse old parts, but sometimes it’s just time to start afresh.

As well as Mr B, who wrote the review that prompted this blog, there are countless other examples of customers upgrading. What is great is that if you’re upgrading an old Keybury system, it’ll be well known by our team. Our surveyor Mick, who provides some of our free of charge quotations often remembers and recognises old systems, having serviced them many times during his time as a Keybury engineer.

This is quite typical for our team.

Can an intruder alarm system last for forty years?

We’re a family run truly local business based in Yorkshire. And we’ve been protecting homes and businesses for well over forty years.

“I just booked a free survey in for one of our customers who’s system was installed when I was a baby”, says Director Karen. And it turns out that company founder Frank remembers fitting the old system! It’s been well maintained, prolonging it’s lifespan. But now this customer’s intruder alarm needs updating. With a new system they’ll be able to benefit from wireless technology, pet friendly sensors, updated monitoring technology, light up bell box and app control.

Intruder alarm systems aren’t actually designed to last forty years. Considering the rate of change in technology, we’re always seeing improvements in the industry. In recent years we’ve updated monitoring from that which relied on old phone lines, and brought app controlled systems to thousands of home owners across the North of England. We offer pet friendly solutions because, like you, we love our furry friends and want to keep them safe too!
